Description
Soil salts can alter soil properties in various ways than can affect the soil’s suitability for crop production. Salt-affected soils are identified as saline, sodic, and saline-sodic soils depending on the types and amounts of salts present. These problems can be some of the most difficult soil conditions to manage and may require expensive and long-term treatments to fully remediate. Soil testing and irrigation water quality are key elements to understanding the nature of the problem and appropriate remediation practices. The presentation will describe the different types of salinity problems, their characteristics, crop production limitations, and physical and chemical remedial practices.
